INDEPENDENT

Frome Town Council

Park Ward By-Election

10th February 2026

On 10th February, residents in Park Ward will elect a new town councillor - and we have a brilliant IfF candidate - Grace Harper!

Independents for Frome is about one simple idea: local decisions made by local people who care deeply about this town.

Grace brings curiosity, warmth and openness to everything she does - values that sit right at the heart of Independents for Frome. She’ll be a thoughtful, grounded voice on the Town Council and a strong representative for Park Ward.

Together, we can keep Frome independent!

“I'm Grace Harper, and I've called Frome home for the past five years. However, Frome has been part of my family's story for two decades through my mother and grandma, which is why I moved here–and like so many of us, I absolutely love this town.

My mother is a therapist and my father was a journalist. I was raised seeing firsthand the power that comes from having your story genuinely heard. I bring this understanding to my work as a documentary filmmaker and teacher. What I love most is getting to know people—what drives them, what they care about, and how communities can come together even when it seems impossible. I've spent months at a time working with communities to make films, building relationships and real trust. This work has taught me that understanding beats judgment every time, and that bridging divides requires showing up consistently and listening properly.

Frome has so much going for it, and people here are passionate about this place—the incredible creativity, energy, and spirit that makes it special. But I keep hearing the same thing in conversations around town: with my daughter at the sandpit in Victoria Park, at Parsons, walking my dog in Rodden Meadow. People who love Frome deeply—both long-term residents and newcomers—aren't connecting the way they could be. We're living parallel lives when we could be weaving our stories together. There's so much potential for connection that we're missing.

I'm honoured to be standing for Independents for Frome because I want to be part of bringing our community closer together—making sure everyone who loves this town feels heard, valued, and part of Frome's story. Please vote for me so we can build a Frome where everyone feels they belong and where we harness all the brilliant energy and passion this town has to offer.”

IfF have made Park Ward safer, greener and better for everyday life.

We’ve invested in Victoria Park

Victoria Park is the heart of Park Ward, and we’ve helped make it a place people love to spend time in, including:

  • A community café, run with Cultivating Communities

  • Refurbished toilets you can rely on

  • Better play areas with more natural features

  • A colourful mural and a unique carved wooden bench

  • More for young people, including a zip wire, and a new social space and skatepark coming soon at Mary Baily

  • New seating, planting, table tennis tables, and large hammocks arriving this spring

We’ve made streets safer

  • Secured funding for the Butts Crossing, helping children and families safely reach schools and Victoria Park

We’ve stood up for Park Ward in planning

  • Our Neighbourhood Plan helped stop the Marston Lane development at appeal — protecting local views, the skyline and the character of the area

Grace will work alongside Polly Lamb in Park Ward.

Polly leads on the new skatepark and serves on the planning committee. Her interest in planning comes from when she ran an ethical letting agency, and she has been a director of Fair Housing for Frome and Frome Area Community Land Trust.

Polly says: “It’s brilliant to represent Park Ward where Victoria Park is at the heart of the area. Walking through the park, busy with people enjoying the space, there’s a lot of Frome Town Council’s work to appreciate. New toilets, well kept open spaces, new facilities and a plan in place for a new skatepark.

Safer school streets zone is partly in Park Ward and it’s been good to hear the feedback from local people, about the positive impacts and also how the scheme could improve.

Frome Town Council is ambitious for a town its size and its great being part of decision making that inspires.”
